While CERES provides an ArcGIS Server interface to this service, as well as an OpenGIS Tiled WMS to this service, it is anticipated that some users would like to maintain a local version of the BaseMapCache for their own purposes. CERES provides a complete package for easy installation of this service. The CERES BaseMapCache provides a large extent, with coarse information for the small scales, with higher resolution information for California, at larger scales. The cache is in the California Albers Equal Area Projection, (EPSG 3310 ) centered with California approximately in the Center. There are 11 Levels in the cache, the smallest scale, L00 covers the United States, with progressively smaller coverages until the larger scales L05-L10 which cover California only. The CERES Base Map serves as a starting point for developing maps in California.
